Ballistic Shields for Military
Ballistic shields, also referred to as ballistic blankets are important protective elements against any form of ballistic attacks. They are constantly used by SWAT teams in situations where they are subject to possible ballistic attack by heavily armed criminals. Another use case is neutralizing threats promptly and this entails very risky search warrants, raid on drug cartel hideouts and active shooting faceoff.
Ballistic Shields are made up of different designs, weight to suit the main purpose for which they are required which is protection. However, the shield choice depends on the level of protection such shield can offer. Hence, this raises the question: What types of ballistic shields are used by the military? Or What types of ballistic shields are ideal for the military personnel against possible ballistic attacks?
By making perusal to the protective designs of ballistic shields and nature of work undertaken by military personnel, ballistic shields IIIA and subsequent shields with even greater resistance are the most ideal. Level IIIA ballistic shield protects against virtually all rounds of guns such as .44magnum, 9mm submachine gun rounds and twelve-gauge shotgun slugs too.
They are equally optimized for maneuverability as they can be made with soft armor. Hence, very instrumental not only in offensive but also defensive situations. The rationale behind this is the fact that military personnel are not always on the best side in combat. A very heavy ballistic shield may slow down retreat process for the bearer.
Furthermore, level III and IV ballistic shields designed to resist 7.62mm FMJ (United States of America M80) rounds and armor piercing rifle threats are also used for very heavy combat by the military. For instance, against terrorist attacks or invasions with series of ballistic attacks.
Military ballistic shields which have viewports have their viewport made with the NIJ certified level II ballistic polycarbonate which provides auxiliary vision to the shield bearer. Viewports made with less resistant materials are unfit for military use.
