Are bullet proof vests stab proof?

Do you know that a bullet proof vest, although capable of dealing with extreme threats, cannot protect against knives, and only a stab or spike proof vest will offer such protection? Stab proof vests are designed for protection against stabbing with sharp-tipped objects such as needles, knives, and slashes. They are designed to prevent serious injury by preventing or reducing knife penetration beyond a few millimeters.

These are designed to be stab or spike resistant. They are used to protect the body’s vital organs from injury from bladed attacks. A stab resistant vest will not necessarily be bulletproof. When an individual is stabbed, the stab is most likely in the abdominal area of the body. Stab resistant body armor stops a knife from passing through it, saving the wearer from injury. A bullet proof vest may also offer no protection to bladed weapons.

Bullet proof or resistant vest will offer some level of stab protection, this is however on a very minimal level. No stab resistant vest on the hand too can provide any ballistic protection A bullet and edged blade resistant vest may offer no protection to spike threats such as screwdrivers, knitting needles or syringes. A spiked object or blade can cut through the protective fabric in body armor, penetrating the vest and rendering it useless. Bulletproof vest works by absorbing and dispersing the energy of an impact. This allows it to ‘capture’ bullets within its fibers and flatten them by dispersing their energy. This is what makes a bulletproof vest susceptible to edged and spiked weapons rendering it useless and damaged.

There are different types of body armor. Body armors have their own unique or specific use. In choosing an armor, it is necessary to choose one that fits your specific needs. Some body armor however offers bullet, edged blade, and spike protection. These types of vests will give protection against a wide range of threats. These are vests that are specially made to offer protection to both ballistic and stab threats.
